St. Petersburg, Fla. (Aug. 23, 2004) – Her Sports magazine was named Best New Magazine at the Charlie Awards on Aug. 21.
"A well deserved award for someone who was able to combine her passion with excellent execution. Another great example of David in the land of the giants," said Samir "Mr. Magazine" Husni, the country's leading magazine expert.
Her Sports , launched by Wet Dog Media in March 2004, is filling a void in the publishing world by reaching out to and motivating women who regard active sports as an important part of their lives.
"I'm so excited and honored for Her Sports to receive the Charlie Award for Best New Magazine. Winning this award shows that a small passionate group can develop a high quality, award-winning national magazine. It also reinforces what our readers are constantly telling us: Her Sports is the magazine they have been wanting to read for years," said Dawna Stone, publisher and founder of Her Sports .
Unlike the majority of women's magazines, Her Sports does not promote fad diets, or accept advertising for diet pills and weight-loss supplements. In addition to sports training advice and interviews with everyday athletes, Her Sports covers active and adventure travel, athletic gear and apparel, body and mind issues, and sports and general nutrition. Her Sports is sold nationwide at Barnes & Noble, Borders, B. Dalton, REI and several other national book retailers.
The Florida Magazine Association (FMA) is the largest state magazine association, representing approximately 236 magazines and 44 suppliers. The FMA's Charlie Award represents the pinnacle of Florida magazine publishing.
