ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (January 19) – Publisher Dawna Stone has announced Kristin Mayer as creative director of Her Sports, a new women's sports and lifestyle magazine set to launch in March 2004.
Mayer will direct the design, style and creative look of the glossy newsstand magazine aimed at women who participate in high-energy sports and regard active sports as an integral part of their lives and self-image.
"The Her Sports market is comprised of women who are strong, independent, intelligent and active," Mayer says. "Our design will speak to this readership while giving readers a look that is bold, fresh, athletic and feminine."
Mayer joins Her Sports after leading a successful design firm that she launched in 1996 to service the active sports market. Her clients include Active.com, PR*Bar, Twinlab Ironman Bar, Triathlete magazine, Competitor Publishing, Generation-A Marketing, Multisports.com, Iron Girl and the Challenged Athletes Foundation.
Upon receiving a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the University of Southern California, Mayer began her career as head footwear designer for the women's athletic
division at L.A. Gear before leaving to become a product marketing manager for Voit Sports, Inc., where she was responsible for both product marketing and design.
"As creative director Kristin not only has a sharp eye for the latest trends and styles in the active market, she can translate them into a look that is both athletic and stylish, while at the same time motivating to the reader," says publisher Dawna Stone. "Under Kristin's direction, Her Sports will have a fresh look and feel that will distinguish it from the mainstream women's health and fitness publications."
A competitive triathlete and surfer, Mayer has completed the grueling Hawaii Ironman World Championship and has numerous age-group placings in the sport of triathlon. She has an athletic background in downhill slalom and giant slalom ski racing, soccer and tennis.
